21st Century Banking

Posted in Tech Corner by Paul Jacob on October 15th, 2006

I always had a hard time going to the bank. I hated the long lines and the rude tellers. Now a California based company called BankServ has an alternative for my bank deposits in the form of a new low cost check scanner and electronic deposits. The check scanner is called the SB1000 and is designed to allow users to scan their own checks and make electronic deposits. You can either buy the duplex scanner for a reasonable cost of $225 or you can lease it for $12 per month.

Unlike most check scanners currently on the market, the SB1000 is equipped with a top-feed slot that accommodates documents up to 8 by 14, and offers the full functionality of a two-sided color scanner with most widely available imaging programs. The SB1000 uses just 2 watts of electricity when running, and draws all the power it needs from an ordinary USB 2.0 port. At 12x2x2 and just over a pound, it takes up a minimal amount of desktop space while delivering 600×1200 dpi resolution and the OCR/MICR recognition required for compliance with the Check Clearing for the 21st Century (Check 21) Act.

Free Hugs - Juan Mann Interview

Posted in General by Paul Jacob on October 7th, 2006

What a thoughtful idea. I mean there is a lot of darkness in this world, and today more than ever I believe we are travelling through uncertain times. I have a lot of respect for Juan Mann who started all this out of pure human kindness. We need more people like him. We live in such a busy world and sometimes we forget how simple things like a Hug can brighten up someones day. All you need is hugsssssss and more hugsssssss……..

Life is constantly changing and the people that we see today may not be here tomorrow so all the people out there show some love towards each other. Life is short and all these petty things people brag about has no meanings. Show some compassion towards each other. Life is bigger than us.

TomTom’s new Car Connect

Posted in Uncategorized by Paul Jacob on October 1st, 2006

TomTom the popular GPS company has released a new device called Car Connect. This device will allow you to hardwire your TomTom to the existing audio system in your car. The bluetooth device is compatible with TomTom GO 510, 910, and TomTom Rider. The Car Connects capabilities is not limited to audio only. The device can also automatically switch the display on your TomTom from day to night mode when you turn your headlights on.

Since installation does require messing around with the electrical wiring in your car, professional installation is suggested, and required for warranty. You must be using TomTom software version 6.52 or greater for TomTom Car Connect to work.

Your car will need ISO-compliant connectors or an Aux in socket to support Car Connect.
