YouTube adds ads backed by Paris Hilton
The video sharing website known as YouTube has become enormously popular ever since its launch. It is believed to have about 100 million videos published every day and equally the same amount of people tuning in to watch those often humorous videos.YouTube will unveil a number of custom branded commercial channels tomorrow in its latest move to monetize the site. YouTube was launched in February of 2005, has raised at least $11.5 million from Sequoia Capital. Now they have decided to start their advertising campaignstarting with Paris hilton accessories, album promotion, and ofcourse her ringtones.
Robin Bechtel, who is the head of new media at Warner Brothers Records, told the Financial times tonight that Paris Hilton and YouTube were a natural fit. I wouldn’t argue with him on that considering her hold on the millions of fans all around the world. She has risen to be a cultural icon and YouTube is definitely an iconic website much like myspace. It’s a strategic move on behalf of YouTube which has struggled to monetize on the popularity of their services untill this far. Ofcourse many of its valued users might be turned off by the use of ad’s playing in their videos and such forth. You have to consider the fact that YouTube reportedly spends about 1 million dollars in bandwidth fee’s every year. Custom branded channels may create a sufficient partition from the parts of the site filled with copyrighted content and therefore request higher ad prices.
